Barney’s Version

By Mordecai Richler

As a proud Montrealer, I’m biased towards Richler’s writing: okay, I think he’s a genius. The story follows Barney Panofsky’s take on his three marriages and the mysterious disappearance of his friend, Boogie. Dotted throughout the book are his son, Michael’s, fastidious footnotes in this tale featuring one of the most endearingly obnoxious of all unreliable narrators.

Perfect for:

• Readers unfamiliar with Richler’s work
• Lovers of un unreliable narrator
• Those interested in a mystery shrouded in impeccable prose

If you liked the book, rent the movie(s): Barney's Version
