Two sisters, Beena and Sadhana, grow up in the shadow of tragedy. Their parents have died and, as teenagers, a Sikh uncle who runs a Montreal bagel store looks them after. The narrative jumps between present and past as Beena tries to cope with Sadhana’s untimely and mysterious death.
